Who provides the coverage
Identify the responsible company and the correct contact process. Product, installer and builder documents may point to different parties.

Understand which roof coverage applies to materials, installation and damage. A product name or “lifetime” label does not explain every condition of a roof warranty.
Roof warranties can cover different responsibilities. A manufacturer’s material coverage and an installer’s workmanship terms are separate promises, with their own limits. Neither should be assumed to cover every leak or every storm event.
Keep the documents for the actual product and installation. The following distinctions help you read them and decide whom to contact; they do not promise coverage for an unknown roof.
Manufacturer programs illustrate why the actual document matters. GAF’s residential warranty information distinguishes product coverage from programs that include specified workmanship protection, subject to their terms and eligibility.
Keep the scope of the promise connected to the installed roof.

The original installation date and any required registration or ownership-transfer steps can matter. A receipt for a house purchase does not establish that every condition was met.
Materials, labor, removal and other project costs may be treated differently. Read the stated remedy rather than assuming a covered defect means a completely free replacement.
Storms, alterations, installation details and other causes may be handled differently. Keep records of later roof work and follow the terms relevant to the actual system.
Begin with the roof condition so the coverage question has a clear basis.
The source may involve installation, later disturbance or deterioration. The presence of water alone does not establish a material defect.
Physical damage and the insurance policy belong in the claim discussion. A nearby weather report does not determine the cause or the insurer’s decision.
The product, failure pattern and applicable document need review. The manufacturer’s process may require particular evidence or inspection steps.

Tell us what has changed on the roof and whether you have records of earlier work. A free inspection can help clarify the physical issue.
